Daniel S. Robinson is a partner in the Newport Beach office of Robinson, Calcagnie & Robinson, specializing in civil litigation. Mr. Robinson is admitted to practice law in New York and California. He is currently involved in several product liability litigations, including Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella, Heparin, Fosamax, Fentanyl, SSRI birth defects, Toyota acceleration and others. Mr. Robinson was appointed by the Honorable James G. Carr, Chief Judge of the Northern District of Ohio, to the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee for the federal multidistrict proceeding for the Contaminated Heparin Litigation, MDL 1953. Mr. Robinson also handles several of the firm’s cases involving significant privacy violations, personal injury claims, unfair business practices and general business litigation.
Mr. Robinson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Williams College in Williamstown, MA. He received his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, CA where he was awarded both the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award and the Hon. William M. Byrne, Sr. Award. Mr. Robinson earned American Jurisprudence and First Honors Awards in Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Marital Property, Mass Tort Litigation and Property II: Future Possessory Interests. During law school, Mr. Robinson competed for Loyola’s nationally-ranked Byrne Trial Advocacy Team where he and co-counsel took first place in the 2003 National Trial Competition Regional Championship, the 2002 Byrne Trial Advocacy Competition and the 2001 William W. Daniel Mock Trial National Championship.
After law school, Mr. Robinson became an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office under the Hon. Robert M. Morgenthau. He conducted numerous trials, investigations and grand jury proceedings in the Trial Bureau Division and was selected to join several of the office’s specialized units, including the Domestic Violence Unit, Public Assistance Fraud Unit, Counterfeit Trafficking Unit and the Identity Theft Unit. After several years in New York, Mr. Robinson returned to California to become an associate at a large, civil defense law firm where he handled cases involving partnership disputes, real estate actions, securities law and other matters of general business litigation.
Mr. Robinson has served as an assistant coach for U.C. Irvine’s mock trial team. He has helped educate attorneys on the use of expert witnesses and has lectured on other aspects of civil litigation, including:
