Jay D. Newell, Investigator
Jay D. Newell received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from the University of Redlands. In 1975 he obtained a State of California, Standard Designated Teaching Credential for the subjects of Police Science. Mr. Newell began his career in January 1970 with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and in December of 1977 he received a commission to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Bureau of Investigation.
Mr. Newell has 30 years of experience in criminal and civil investigations. In 1988 he received the “Investigator of the Year” award from the California District Attorneys’ Investigator Association for his work in complex homicide investigations. He has investigated several high profile and nationally acclaimed cases throughout his career. In the case of People vs. David Brown, Mr. Newell teamed with future Robinson Calcagnie & Robinson partner Jeoffrey L. Robinson, who at the time was a Deputy District Attorney, and the two were profiled in a book which made the New York Best Seller list. Mr. Newell also was the lead investigator in a complex civil forfeiture case involving a kingpin in a major drug cartel.
Since joining the Law Firm of Robinson, Calcagnie & Robinson, Mr. Newell has established himself within the national and international investigative networks, and has handled hundreds of investigations in civil matters ranging from automotive design defects to aviation disasters to corporate fraud He is an active member of the California Association of Licensed Investigators and the National Association of Legal Investigators.
