Major A. Langer was born in Liberty, New York, July 11, 1942. He attended the University of North Carolina 1959-1961 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from State University of New York at Buffalo in 1963. From there Mr. Langer attended St. John's University Law School in New York obtaining an L.L.B. degree in 1966. Mr. Langer was admitted to the bar in New York in 1966 and in California in 1967. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Central and Southern Districts of California, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Langer began his career in New York where he practiced for one year before moving to California where he obtained employment with Demler, Eagleson and Perona. He initially specialized in defending insurance cases but his practice soon evolved to representing claimants.
Mr. Langer resides in Rolling Hills, California with his wife and three children. His interests include coaching his children in sports, gardening, billiards and photography.
As the senior managing partner of Perona, Langer, Beck, Lallande & Serbin, he has tried over 100 cases to verdict including the case of Weber v. The City of Rolling Hills which was a jury trial that lasted 14 months and was the longest civil trial in California history. This case resulted in a verdict and settlements for the plaintiffs in excess of $16 million. Mr. Langer has obtained numerous seven figure verdicts. In addition, Mr. Langer handles the entertainment practice for the firm and most recently successfully represented the actress Pamela Anderson Lee in a $5 million breach of contract suit brought against her.
Mr. Langer was the attorney responsible for obtaining the charter for National Bank of Long Beach and served as a Director and as General Counsel for the bank. He has published articles in the fields of landslide litigation and construction defect.
Mr. Langer has served as a legal aide volunteer attorney and judge pro tempore in the Long Beach Settlement Project. He is a member of the Long Beach Bar Association, South Bay Bar Association, Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association, and California Consumer Attorneys. He has lectured at the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association Convention and has been asked to be a guest lecturer at Harvard Law School on entertainment law.
