Karren T. Schaeffer, obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Western State University in 1984, where she also served as Associate Editor and Business Editor of the Law Review, Ferguson Moot Court Director, teaching assistant, and peer counselor.
Prior to obtaining her law degree, she was a manager in the implantable medical device industry in the areas of governmental regulatory approvals / compliance and medical marketing. Ms. Schaeffer practice has included bankruptcy / reorganization matters, estate and tax planning, business management and regulatory compliance. She was an adjunct professor at Western State University, and later served as Assistant Dean at Southern California College of Law and Founding Dean for Southern California College of Business & Law, which focused on Paralegal education.
Ms. Schaeffer served as Director of a non-profit social support agency for several years, directing and raising funds for a wide range of social programs, including homeless / transitional/ cold weather housing shelters, English as a Second Language programs, after school tutoring programs, low / no fee psychological counseling programs, hot meal programs, food assistance, utility assistance, senior housing and transportation programs, refugee resettlement assistance program and affordable child care centers. She has served on several boards of directors, primarily in the non-profit arena, including the local FEMA board and Community Development Council.
She is currently involved in mass tort cases involving medical devices and pharmaceutical products and is participating in the Federal Multi-District Zyprexa, Guidant, Medtronic, Bextra/ Celebrex litigations and the recent Seroquel, Renu and Fosamax litigations.
Ms. Schaeffer is admitted to practice before the State Bar of California, the United States District Courts for the Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) and the American Bar Association (ABA).
